How to split PDF pages online
Written and maintained by PrivyPDF · Last updated October 4, 2026
A practical guide to extracting selected PDF pages locally without changing the original document.
Why split a PDF?
A long PDF often contains only a few pages that another person needs. Extracting a chapter, invoice, application form, or appendix can make the shared file clearer and smaller. Splitting also lets you keep the source document intact while creating a focused copy for a particular task.
Choose pages precisely
PrivyPDF accepts individual page numbers and ranges. For example, “1-3, 6, 10-12” keeps pages 1, 2, 3, 6, 10, 11, and 12 in that order. Page numbers start at one, matching the numbers most people see in a PDF viewer. If a file has a cover with no printed number, count the cover as page one.
Create and verify the extract
Add one PDF, enter the page list, and choose Extract pages. The tool creates a new PDF and leaves the original on your device. Open the result before sharing it. Check that the first page is correct, the final page is present, and no confidential page was accidentally included.
What splitting does not do
Splitting selects pages; it does not redact text or remove information that remains on the selected pages. It also does not repair a damaged or password-protected PDF. For sensitive documents, review the extracted copy visually and use a proper redaction workflow when information must be permanently removed.
PrivyPDF processes files locally in your browser. Keep your original files until you have reviewed the downloaded result.
